Noxious Weed Board recruitment
Consider applying to serve on the Noxious Weed Control Board to guide noxious weed policy for King County. The current deadline for applications is April 30, 2026.
The King County Noxious Weed Control Board consists of five volunteers, each representing a particular area of the county, and a non-voting advisory representative from WSU Extension. Board members are appointed by King County Council to carry out the mandates of the Washington Noxious Weed Control Law, Chapter 17.10 RCW. They all reside in King County within their respective district boundaries and share an interest in and knowledge about agriculture and/or the natural resources of the county.

Recruitment and eligibility information
Applicants should be interested in and knowledgeable about noxious weeds and their impact on natural and community resources. We strive to have committee membership reflect the full diversity of the county. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including people from communities that have been historically excluded or underrepresented—such as Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color, LGBTQ+, immigrants and refugees, and people from low-income backgrounds.
The one open position has a specific geographic residency requirement, and you must live in Weed District 1, to apply. District 1 includes Northwest King County including: Shoreline, Seattle, Lake Forest Park, Kenmore, Bothell, Woodinville, Redmond, Kirkland, Bellevue, and Mercer Island.
What’s involved in committee service?
Board members meet monthly on the last Wednesday of each month for 2 hours from 2pm until 4pm. Board members remain engaged and educated in issues related to noxious weeds and their impacts on agriculture, forestry, ecology, and public health. Board members stay up-to-date on new weeds listed at the state level and are prepared to adopt the updated King County noxious weed list each January.
