King County Flood Control District

In April 2007, the Metropolitan King County Council created a new countywide special purpose district, the King County Flood Control District (District), to provide funding and policy oversight for flood risk reduction capital projects and programs in King County.

The District’s Board of Supervisors is its primary governing body and is composed of the members of the Metropolitan King County Council.

The District brings a comprehensive approach to flood management and provides funding to improve the County’s aging and inadequate flood protection facilities. It works to protect lives and property and ensure that King County’s economic infrastructure is safe from damage caused by fall and winter storms. It also provides Grant Funds and Programs to address flood control, stormwater improvements, and watershed management activities, such as habitat conservation related to flood or stormwater activities.
