LFLR 1. Applicability

These rules shall apply to all family law proceedings under RCW Title 26, except for Chapter 26.33, and domestic violence protection proceedings under RCW Title 7.105. Family law proceedings also include cases regarding committed intimate relationships.  State court rules and other local court rules also apply to all family law and domestic violence protection order proceedings.  Failure to follow these rules may result in the court imposing fines or penalties, including dismissal of the case.

RCW 26.12.010 confers authority upon Family Courts to hear any proceedings under Title 26 as well as any proceedings in which the court is asked to adjudicate or enforce the rights of the parties or their children regarding the determination or modification of parenting plans, child custody, visitation, or support, or the distribution of property or obligations. Family Law Commissioners are empowered to exercise all the powers and duties of court commissioners under the Washington State Constitution, Article IV, Sec 23, when operating under the authority of RCW 26.12.
